Learn MoreThe AmTryke® Program
The fun and freedom of riding your own bike is something everyone should be able to enjoy. The AmTryke® therapeutic tricycle program was adopted as a national project by AMBUCS in 1991.
The program is about abilities, not disabilities. The AmTryke goal is to provide people with disabilities the opportunity to ride bikes, improve motor skills, provide strength training, balance, and range of motion.
Since 1991, AmTryke, LLC has become a million-dollar corporation with over 12 different sizes of trykes available to help “Create Mobility and Independence for People with Disabilities” of all ages — from “Cradle to Gray.”
About Our Chapter
Adaptive Cycling of Southern Idaho is part of a national non-profit 501(c)(3) service organization that began in Birmingham, Alabama in 1922. The mission statement is, “Creating Mobility and Independence for People with Disabilities.”
The mission is accomplished by doing community service, giving scholarships to therapists, building ramps, and by giving away therapeutic tricycles called AmTrykes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Adaptive Cycling of Southern Idaho is a local chapter of the national non-profit 501(c)(3) service organization AMBUCS, which was founded in Birmingham, Alabama in 1922. Our chapter serves the Magic Valley region of Idaho, with a mission centered on creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities.
We accomplish this mission through community service, fundraising, and providing AmTryke® therapeutic tricycles to individuals who are unable to ride traditional bicycles. Our work is supported entirely by volunteers, donors, and generous sponsors from across the Twin Falls area and beyond.
As a registered non-profit with Tax ID #90-1106665, every contribution to our organization is tax-deductible. We welcome involvement from community members, businesses, healthcare providers, and anyone who shares our passion for helping people with disabilities achieve greater independence.
The AmTryke® therapeutic tricycle is a specially engineered adaptive bike designed for individuals who are unable to operate a traditional bicycle due to physical, developmental, or neurological disabilities. Unlike standard bikes, AmTrykes can be pedaled with the hands, feet, or both, making them accessible to a wide range of users.
AmTryke, LLC, which grew out of the AMBUCS program in 1991, now offers over 12 different sizes of adaptive tricycles designed to help children and adults of all ages and ability levels — from toddlers to seniors — experience the freedom and joy of cycling. The therapeutic benefits include improved motor skills, increased upper and lower body strength, enhanced balance, and greater range of motion.
For individuals with conditions such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, autism, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injuries, stroke recovery, and many others, an AmTryke can be genuinely life-changing — providing not just physical exercise, but also independence, confidence, and the simple pleasure of riding a bike.
Getting an AmTryke through Adaptive Cycling of Southern Idaho begins with contacting our chapter directly. We work closely with physical, occupational, and speech therapists to identify individuals in our community who would most benefit from a therapeutic tricycle. Therapist recommendations are often part of the process, as they help ensure the right size and style of tryke is matched to the user's specific needs.
Once a need is identified and approved, our chapter raises the funds needed to purchase the AmTryke and then presents it to the recipient at no cost. The trykes are provided as gifts, not loans — meaning the recipient keeps the AmTryke for as long as it is useful to them.
To begin the process, reach out to us via email at AdaptiveID@gmail.com or use the contact form on our website. You can also work through a therapist who can submit a recommendation on behalf of their patient. We review all requests and prioritize based on need and available funding.
There are several meaningful ways to support our mission of creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities in the Magic Valley area. The most direct way is through a financial donation — even a small contribution can help fund an AmTryke for a child or adult in need. You can make a donation through our donations page.
Becoming a sponsor is another powerful option. Businesses and individuals who sponsor our chapter receive recognition in our materials and at our events, while making a measurable difference in the lives of community members with disabilities. Visit our sponsors page to learn about sponsorship levels and benefits.
Volunteering your time is equally valuable. We hold annual bike repair and sizing events, community outreach activities, and fundraising events that all depend on dedicated volunteers. If you are a therapist, healthcare professional, or educator who works with individuals with disabilities, you may also be able to support us by referring eligible patients or students.

Since then, AMBUCS chapters like ours in Southern Idaho have raised funds and distributed thousands of AmTrykes to individuals across the country who cannot ride traditional bicycles. Adaptive Cycling of Southern Idaho holds an annual bike repair and sizing event, typically in May each year at the Magic Valley Mall. At this event, volunteers inspect and service AmTrykes, adjust sizing for growing children, and replace worn parts. This free service ensures that all trykes in our community continue to function safely and comfortably for their users.
If your tryke needs urgent repair before the annual event, please contact us using the bike repair form on our website. When submitting a repair request, include the serial number of your tryke in the subject line and describe the issue in as much detail as possible. You can also email photos of the damage or the part that needs replacement to adaptiveid@gmail.com to help us prepare the correct parts.
We make every effort to address repair needs promptly, especially for children who depend on their tryke daily for therapy and mobility. All repair services are provided at no cost to recipients.
